Peter Amuso Springfield Township Magistrate JudgeAs a former U.S. Army prosecutor, Springfield Township school board member and local attorney, Peter Amuso has dedicated his life to serving his community. He has built a reputation as a fair and skilled advocate for families, children, seniors and veterans.

Peter, the son of two school teachers, learned the values of hard-work, fairness and service at an early age. Peter attended public schools and graduated from high school in northwestern Pennsylvania where he earned a four-year Army ROTC scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington, DC. From there, Peter earned his law degree from Harvard.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Peter served in the U.S. Army for four years as a member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, earning his parachutist wings before heading to his first duty station in Germany. While in Germany, Peter provided vital legal services to over 15,000 U.S. soldiers and American civilians. During his service, Peter deployed to Albania with Task Force Hawk, and advised top U.S. Army commanders on the law of war during the 1999 NATO air war over Serbia and Kosovo. Upon his return to Germany, Peter served as the sole military prosecutor for the entire Heidleberg military community, where we worked closely with American military and Germany civilian authorities alike to prosecute drug dealers and violent criminals. He went on to handle several high-profile cases as a member of the Army's Trial Defense Service attached to the First Brigade of the First Armored Division in central Germany. Peter completed his military service in 2002, having achieved the rank of Captain.

Peter Amuso Springfield Township Magistrate JudgeSince completing his military service, Peter has gone on to build a distinguished career as an attorney and community leader. In 2003, Peter worked closely with federal prosecutors in assisting a Fortune 500 company cooperate with the prosecution of its former CEO and former General Counsel for defrauding shareholders. Peter also fought for the return of fraudulent bonuses paid to corporate executives of the same company.

In addition, Peter has successfully handled hundreds of cases on a wide range of issues including family law, civil matters, veteran's benefits and real estate matters. His years of experience in successfully dealing with cases covering diverse areas of law have given him the deep knowledge and keen understanding of the judicial process necessary for an effective Magisterial District Judge.

Peter's commitment to building and maintaining safe communities goes beyond the courtroom. In 2005, Peter was elected to the Springfield Township School Board, where he served for four years. During his tenure, Peter spearheaded the successful construction of the new Erdenheim Elementary School, the dramatic modernization of the Springfield Township Middle School and was deeply involved with the district-wide effort to increase school safety.

Peter also serves the Township as secretary of the board of directors of an important non-profit organization: including Keystone Hospice in Wyndmoor. In addition, Peter is a life member of the Springfield Township VFW Post 7919, the Savage Post 100 of the American Legion in Wyndmoor, and the Sons of Italy. He also coaches CYO basketball and soccer at Our Mother of Consolation, where his children attend school.
